Federal Cloud Done Right , From Day One

Federal agencies operate under a unique set of constraints: strict compliance requirements, legacy system dependencies, and the uncompromising need for mission continuity. KSApex was built to navigate exactly this environment.

Our cloud and infrastructure practice is rooted in federal delivery experience. We do not import commercial playbooks and call it a day. Every engagement starts with a rigorous assessment of your current state , technical debt, authorization boundaries, data classification, and workforce readiness , before a single workload moves.

The result is a migration that lands where it is supposed to: on time, on cost, and with the security posture your ATO demands. We have delivered this outcome across civilian and DoD environments, and we bring those lessons to every new engagement.

Service Areas

Structured delivery across the full cloud lifecycle, from initial assessment through steady-state operations.

Cloud Migration & Modernization

We assess application portfolios against the 7 Rs of migration (Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, etc.), prioritize workloads by business value and risk, and execute cutovers with documented rollback procedures. Hypercare support runs for 30 days post-migration so agencies reach steady state with confidence.

Multi-Cloud Architecture

Avoid single-vendor lock-in while meeting agency data residency and performance requirements. We design reference architectures across AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and Google Cloud that share a common identity plane, logging standard, and network perimeter so operators are not managing three separate environments.

Infrastructure as Code

Manual click-ops is the enemy of repeatability and compliance. We replace it with version-controlled Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks that provision, configure, and patch environments from a single source of truth. Every infrastructure change passes through a peer-reviewed pipeline with automated policy gates before it reaches production.

Hybrid Cloud Design

Not every workload moves to the cloud on day one. We design hybrid architectures that extend on-premises data centers into government cloud environments through dedicated connectivity (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute), consistent DNS, and unified identity federation , preserving investments in existing infrastructure while enabling cloud-native capabilities.

Cloud Security & FedRAMP

Security is not a phase at the end of a migration; it is a prerequisite for every architecture decision. We integrate NIST 800-53 controls into infrastructure design, support SIEM and SOAR deployment, and guide cloud service providers and agencies through FedRAMP authorization packages , from initial gap analysis through the ATO letter.

Disaster Recovery & Continuity

Federal missions cannot wait for an outage to expose gaps in a recovery plan. We design, document, and test DR strategies against defined RTO and RPO targets , including automated failover, cross-region replication, and tabletop exercises , so the plan works under real pressure, not just on paper.

Our Delivery Approach

A four-phase model that reduces risk at every transition point.

Phase One

Assess

We inventory your application portfolio, map data flows, classify workloads by sensitivity, and identify authorization boundaries. Dependencies, technical debt, and compliance gaps are documented before any architecture work begins.

Phase Two

Architect

Reference architectures are developed for each workload type, reviewed against NIST controls and agency standards, and presented to stakeholders for approval. IaC templates are built and validated in a sandbox environment before any production work begins.

Phase Three

Migrate

Workloads move in prioritized waves, starting with non-critical systems to validate the process before mission-critical applications follow. Each wave ends with a structured hypercare period and a signed-off acceptance checklist before the next begins.

Phase Four

Operate

Post-migration, we establish monitoring baselines, configure automated alerting, and hand off runbooks to agency operations staff. Optional managed services and continuous optimization reviews keep the environment performing and cost-efficient as mission needs evolve.

Past Performance Highlights

Demonstrated results in federal cloud and infrastructure delivery.

HHS Federal Civilian Infrastructure Modernization Outstanding CPARS
REMIS Infrastructure Support , U.S. Department of Health & Human Services

KSApex provided infrastructure architecture and systems integration support for the HHS REMIS environment, encompassing server configuration management, network connectivity hardening, and application-layer performance tuning. Our team worked directly with HHS operations staff to establish documented runbooks, reduce unplanned downtime, and deliver configuration baseline documentation aligned to NIST 800-53 controls. Deliverables were accepted on schedule and rated Outstanding in the agency's Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS) evaluation. The engagement demonstrated KSApex's ability to operate within federal change management windows, coordinate with multi-stakeholder governance boards, and maintain zero contract failures across the performance period.
